  • A comment was just removed that said it's not based on either Java or C++.

    If you actually read the .pdf doc from them, you will see that phrase used exactly.

  • Except EC4 is completely backwards compatible with EC3 (existing JavaScript). That is, a valid EC3 program is a valid EC4 program. So it's not like moving from Fortran to C++. It's list keeping all the Fortran you already have and want, but being able to also link some C++ into the final executable.
  • I guess I should have been more clear. When I made that comparison, what I meant was not that it's backwards incompatible, but rather that (to me at least) it seems like lightyears away from it's predecessor.

    Maybe the FORTRAN was an extreme comparison, but I still feel that it's very very different...
