- Web browsers have a very different bandwidth profile, but your point is valid in that other types of services can saturate a connection. Certainly any UDP service can do this. We used to take high...
- Hey Sean, I also agree with you - the oversubscription for low-cost purposes is an issue I didn't touch here, but may in the future. Good insight though. --Kyle
- Hey Chris, Thanks. I'll agree with too many streams saturating a connection... this is a known problem. Depending on, say, the Torrent client you use, you can decide whether or not you want to...
- I work for an ISP. We sell primarily to businesses. Our products are priced such that the price charged to the customer includes the fully burdened cost of providing that service. e.g. we make a...
- I think the point of your article is spot on, however, I think people underestimate the scope of the problem the telcos and ISPs are dealing with. The bulk of TCP traffic has always been limited by...

thoughts on life, code, and things
For my “Argumentative Writing” class, I could get extra credit by reflecting on my voting experience… what I did to prepare as well as the actual voting itself.

If you'd made the effort to dig a little deeper, you would have realised that Satanists don't need to beg Satan for forgiveness of any 'sins'. If we make mistakes, we learn, pay for them and move on.
You're making the elementary error of thinking that Satanism is Christianity, with Satan taking the place of Jehovah. You can read more about this here: http://blog.opusdiaboli.info/2008/11/02/hallowe...

a) "we", huh? Interesting. I've never met a real live Satanist before. Even online.
b) I'll admit that I took some liberties with this... I wasn't going for research value, but instead for a teacher-shock value
I mixed LaVayan Satanism with dashes of Wicca and some good old fashioned made up nonsense (Google "Vierendelen" and you'll see what I mean)....
That's how Wikipedia was helpful- in my creation of this mishmash of scare tactics- not in actual research value.
But I'm glad someone picked up on it! ;-)

I'm sure you have. Other than the kids wearing upside-down crucifixes, we don't advertise much.
We are teachers, cops, lawyers, business people. We value intelligence and achievement, so it is not surprising that we gravitate towards positions of influence and responsibility. We dress and behave commensurate with that kind of place in society. I'm, taking the time to respond because your original piece seemed thoughtful and not motivated by the majority assumptions people make about Satanism. We are not in the business of recruitment, but if you want to find our more, you can view the suggested reading list at Opus Diaboli, or visit its sister site www.satanism-today.com

As a "devout" atheist, I completely understand the "value intelligence and achievement" part... one of the things "we" hate most is stupid cows who believe what they're told, and follow doctrines because they're supposed to.
I'll check out your suggestions, because I have a tendency to ... gravitate ... toward the darker things in life, and have always had a curiosity for these things. But I doubt I'll be converting anytime soon... ;-)

Anyway, if you're interested in exploring that kind of thought from... shall we say, a 'secular' point of view, you could do worse than check out the philosophy (not the fiction) of Ayn Rand and also Friedrich Nietzsche. Anton Lavey's Satanism is drawn heavily from both. I won't post here any more, but if you're interested or have any questions, you can e-mail me.
