Introducing Java

Started by Kyle Brady · 9 months ago

If this were a carnival, this post would be titled “Introducing Java, The Programming Wunderkind That Everyone Loves After They Actually Try It And Stop Being A Hater”.
Which is entirely too long, I think.
Anyways, I’m proclaiming to the world that I h ... Continue reading »

  • Don't know what the details of your project require...but I would also suggest checking out Ruby and/or Python as well...I've worked in all of them for various projects (personal and professional) and I can tell you that I love working in Ruby and Python 100% more than I like working in Java...best of all, for the most part everything I've wanted to be able to do in Java I could also do in either of these languages.
  • True.

Except this is a situation of "real programming" and not "web programming", so Ruby doesn't apply.

And Python is not something I'm a fan of either...

    Haha but good looking out!

  • I do a ton of "real" programming with Ruby (and a little with Python)...it's more in what and how you design and write (your logic) than it is what language (your syntax)...I think you'll find most languages are about the same when it comes down to doing real things.

Anyway - good luck with it...I spent a few good years pretty much doing everything in Java (real programming) and I still maintain a few things here and there in Java...but all my 'new' development is never in Java anymore and I'm much happier because of it ;-)
  • [this was finished via IM, FYI to the world, but Java makes more sense for a continuous system process that's doing heavy lifting]

  • "Now if only I could find one of these for PHP, then I’d have the programming environments triple threat…"

    PHPEclipse? Zend Studio?
  • I tried PHPEclipse, and it didn't meet my expectations.

And I believe Zend Studio is a paid license? Which isn't really an option. ;-)

    Thanks though.
